So, about my research project…

What's worse than people who never update their blog? People who only occasionally update their blog and whine about how they never have time to update their blog, of course. With that in mind, straight on to the important stuff: If you want to know a bit more about the current state of research on European journalism, check out this. As part of my research, I have reviewed existing research on the topic - so if you're looking for an academic paper where the bibliography is as long as the paper itself, this is for you! Some highlights for the reading-impaired:
  • Research on European journalism is booming because the EU funds it (researchers go where the money is - more on this in a post coming soon to a blog near you)
  • Much of the research is concerned with whether a "European" journalism is emerging (i.e. a journalism that is produced from a European rather than national perspective), and the near-uniform conclusion is that it isn't. Read more in the paper on why I think scholars are looking for "European journalism" where they want to find it rather than where it is likely to be found.
  • European journalism is becoming more Americanized and more nationally-focused. How is this paradox possible? Read the paper.
  • Also: keep an eye out at European Journalism Observatory, where my paper will be republished shortly, this time with an abstract/summary in Polish, German and Italian.
